What an online gradebook does

A paper mark register holds one copy of each score, in one teacher's bag. A spreadsheet is better, until two versions exist and nobody knows which one has the corrected marks. An online gradebook keeps one record per student per subject that the teacher, the head of academics and, once grades are published, the parent all read from.

In Skolex the gradebook is not a separate tool you feed by hand. It sits inside the same platform as lessons, quizzes, assignments, attendance and report cards, so most marks arrive in it without anyone typing them.

Marks flow in from quizzes and assignments

Multiple-choice quizzes are graded the moment a student submits. File-upload assignments are graded by the teacher in place. Either way, the score lands in the gradebook without being copied across.

Weights per subject

Each subject can weight its marks differently. Set the weights once and every later score, from the first quiz to the final exam, is calculated the same way, so a class's averages don't depend on who did the sums.

Midterm and final marks

Teachers add midterm and final exam marks directly. Totals recalculate instantly, and class rankings are worked out automatically.

From gradebook to report card

Because the marks are already in one place, report cards don't need retyping. Skolex generates PDF report cards from gradebook data, adds each student's attendance, and lets teachers and the principal add remarks. Templates are multilingual, including English and Urdu. See report card software for how it works.

What parents and students see

When a teacher publishes grades, students and parents are notified and can open them in their portal, alongside attendance and messages from the school. More on the parent portal.

  • Teachers: enter exam marks, set subject weights, publish when ready
  • Parents and students: published grades, with a notification when they're released

Moving from paper registers or Excel

Bulk-import your students, teachers and classes from a spreadsheet. If your records are on paper, type them into a spreadsheet first and import them in one go. On the School and Network plans our onboarding team can help you migrate, and live training sessions are included for your teachers.
